Boots on the Ground

Report:

Theatre company Tangled Feet brought a new FREE outdoor show about WW1 to Dulwich on November 9th, 10th & 11th.

The piece was co-commissioned by Southwark Council and Wiltshire Creative, and they have been liaising with the British Army and have done extensive interviews with veterans as well as in-depth historical research.

Inspired by the centenary of the mass demobilisations from WW1 and the tales of modern-day veterans, Boots On The Ground is a promenade show, combining binaural headphone technology, live action and our trademark physicality. Setting out from an Army tent in Dulwich Park, the audience exchanged their shoes for a pair of Army boots, joined a squadron of fellow civilians and embarked on an hour-long walk around the local area together. Over the course of the journey, two stories, set a hundred years apart, were brought vividly to life against the backdrop of familiar streets.

They also had capacity to deliver FREE workshops for students (as well as adult groups) exploring how the show was made: using history as a stimulus when creating dramatic material. Workshops were tailored to any age and towards a particular focus that complemented existing work that the participants were undertaking.
