The event was free of charge, and no previous knowledge of Russian was required. The outreach event offered interested students the opportunity to learn about Russian, Polish and Ukrainian courses at Cambridge, and to meet current students and members of the Department of Slavonic Studies.

Suitable for all students who were considering a Cambridge degree in Modern and Medieval Languages, or the new joint degree of Russian with History.  The day starts at 11am with a Welcome and Introduction from Dr Rory Finnin where you can learn about the department of Slavonic Studies, this is followed by a Russian Taster lesson aimed at those with either no Russian experience or some experience at GCSE or A Level.

After lunch were two presentations.  Dr Rachel Polonsky, author of Molotov’s Magic Lantern: A Journey in Russian History (Faber & Faber 2010); and Professor Simon Franklin, Language(s) and Culture in Russian History.
