Jeremy Deller

Date of past event:

19th October 2018

Report:

Students from five SSLP schools were warmly welcomed to the Dulwich Picture Gallery by the Curator, Peter Kerber.
They took the opportunity to see the exhibition Ribera: Art of Violence, before settling down to hear Jeremy Deller deliver his lecture Conflict in Art.

A Turner Prize winner, much of Deller’s politically driven work is collaborative, devaluing the traditions of artistic ego through the involvement of others. His recent work ‘We’re here because we’re here’ (2016), commissioned to commemorate the Battle of the Somme, and ‘5 March 2007’ exemplify Deller’s continued interest in war, conflict and legacy.

The SSLP Creative Hub organises termly Art Lectures and looks forward to welcoming more students next term.
