City Heights: Modern Foreign Language Conference

Date of past event:

4th July 2017

Report:

In these days of highly priced INSET there was as predicted a lot to interest in the City Heights – E-ACT Academy on Tuesday 4th July (hosted at Dulwich College). At just £35 for the day (including all refreshments) a whole department could go for the cost of a single delegate elsewhere!

Dr Hawkes is arguably one of the most famous secondary school linguists in the UK. Her online resources – known to all and used by most – have improved many a lesson. Rachel delivered the keynote talk as well as running a workshop on the new GCSE examination. There were a large number of workshops so delegates found sessions appropriate to their teaching. As you might expect the commonly taught languages were covered, as well as thorny issues such the new GCSE and A levels but many found much of interest in the sessions on EAL, CLIL, less commonly taught languages, late stage bilinguals, UKLO – as well as the dedicated strands for Primary and German. The full range of workshops can be found online .
