SSLP STEMshort – Lecture Series (1)

Date of past event:

6th December 2017

This was the inaugural lecture of the STEMshort lecture series, and it was a huge success.
Professor Helen Fielding, UCL, ‘Lights, molecules, action’

Professor Fielding is a professor of Chemical Physics and Head of the Physical Chemistry department at UCL. In this talk she discussed her research which focuses on the spectroscopy and ultrafast dynamics of excited states of molecules and protein chromophores in the gas-phase and in solution.

Professor Fielding’s talk included high-level Physics and Chemistry, but was suitable for any student and their parent/ carer from Year 11 upwards with an interest in scientific research or physical science degree courses.

Around 65 students attended from Charter, City of London Academy, DC, JAGS, STAC, UAE Southbank and Alleyn’s. Professor Fielding gave a really interesting interactive demonstration lecture, and there was about 20 minutes of questions after the talk. There was a real feeling of academic interest – a great evening, and we’re looking forward to the next one!
