Reflecting on 2020/21

Covid restrictions have been in place all year for school partnerships, meaning we have only been able to have two face-to-face opportunities. This means we have had to find other ways to bring schools, staff and students together.
In total we have arranged 64 Exclusive or Private opportunities – these have allowed the seventeen schools of the partnership to engage with each other a total of 448 times!

PlayOn’s Macbeth will be the first production at Theatre Peckham since it has re-opened and features a fantastic young cast of 15 aspiring actors. The SSLP has worked with PlayOn and Theatre Peckham to support this production and we are pleased that one of the workshops that have led up to the performance was also a CPDL session for SSLP teachers. Performances will take place at 10:30m and 7pm on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th June. Group tickets for SSLP schools are available for just £6 each.

Annual Review
The summer term is one of reflection and learning for the SSLP, as we take stock of what we have achieved over the course of the year and begin to plan what we can offer schools next year.
On Monday 14th June Headteachers, SSLP Link teachers and other senior teachers will gather for a virtual annual review, hearing from some of the staff and students who have been involved in this year’s projects. We will also be launching an evaluation survey for staff and students from all schools to be completed over a two-week period. This survey has been put together by Impact-Ed and will form a baseline for the next two-years’ activities.

On Thursday 17th June SSLP Link teachers are invited to the Africa Centre where we will begin planning the activities for next year and what September’s annual launch will look like. This will be influenced by the results of the student voice survey currently being circulated to students, where we have asked what the theme for next year should be.

One year on from the shocking murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis,
SSLP students have been able to come together to watch four powerful films reflecting their own experiences of racism.

Made by students in years 9, 10 and 12 from thirteen SSLP schools, these four films are the result of six-months collaboration. Each film has been accompanied by a lesson plan packed full of ideas for activities that can be used with Year 8 classes to explore their own experiences. We gathered at Theatre Peckham last night to watch the films for the first time as a collection. We also heard about the importance of promoting African cultural experiences here in London from Belvin Tawuya of the Africa Centre and Maria Askew from Mountview spoke about Decolonial Storytelling.
