2023 Photography Competition

The 2023 SSLP Photography Competition ran for 5 months from January to May. We received a total of 321 entries, with the most popular month being February when we had 107 submissions to round 2. Our five rounds were supported by five excellent guest judges.

Our five rounds were

  • The Extraordinary Ordinary judged by Lillie Eiger (101 entries)
  • Natural Worlds judged by Alice Cazenave (107 entries)
  • Motion and Distortion judged by Mel Bles (55 entries)
  • Forgotten Objects judged by Sophie Bullen (30 entries)
  • Reflections and Perspectives judged by Karl Simms (28 entries)

All 321 entries were considered for the final award of Best Picture, and all entrants who had submitted a picture in each of the five rounds were considered for the prize of Best Portfolio.

For the final we invited SSLP Co-Directors to be the judges. Dr Joe Spence, Master of Dulwich College, has picked a winner and runner-up from the student entries; and Marcus Huntley, Principal of The Charter School Bermondsey chose his favourites from the staff entries.

Both judges then selected their choice for Best Portfolio. Everyone will receive prizes.

Reflections and Perspectives

This is the fifth and final round of the SSLP Photography Competition 2023, this month we are looking for pictures that play around with the real world. You might respond to the word ‘reflection‘ by capturing a mirrored image or by showing someone in a state of reflection; or perhaps you’ll be inspired by the word ‘perspectives‘ and show something from an unusual angle or create an illusion by lining up things near and far. If you’re very clever perhaps your image will respond to both words! We look forward to seeing what you create.

Use your imagination, camera settings and, if you wish, editing software to create an image that that responds to Reflections and Perspectives.

Our guest judge this month is artist and Software engineer, Karl Sims

Forgotten Objects

This is the fourth round of the SSLP Photography Competition 2023, this month we are looking for pictures that turn the spotlight onto things that otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you’ll find something from the past nestled in the present, a discarded item that refuses to be lost forever or perhaps an unassuming object that holds within it the memories of those that loved it before.

Use your imagination, camera settings and, if you wish, editing software to create an image that tells the story of a Forgotten Object.

Our guest judge this month is conceptual artist and curator Sophie Bullen.

Deadline for entries Sunday 30th March

Recommended picture size is 800x600pixels
