Nine SSLP schools have been competing, with others, in the Southwark Schools Basketball League during the Autumn term. Congratulations to UAE South Bank who became eventual winners of the U16 competition in a thrilling triple overtime victory against St Thomas Apostle College. The U14 competition saw Dulwich College take on Kingsdale Foundation School, the game was close, but the talented Kingsdale team pushed on to victory in the last few minutes to be crowned U14 champions.

This week nine Take A Seat participants went to Swindon to visit Tom Faulkner’s workshop and spent four hours learning how he makes furniture, from the design process to manufacture, finish, assembly and finally transportation. They spoke with the welders and finishers, learning tricks and techniques to achieve the best quality outcome. They also had a chance to operate a fly press and try MIG welding. As well as workshops they have also visited Tom’s showrooms in Chelsea.

On Tuesday 5th November SSLP schools attended the high energy launch of the 2019/20 DebateMate programme in London. We’re very grateful that the Worshipful Company of International Bankers are funding 30 workshops across our schools so SSLP pupils can learn debating skills that will last a lifetime.

The SSLP Indoor Athletics yesterday was a great success. We had Twenty-Two teams take part, representing eight of our schools. They participated in High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put on the field, and 60m, 200m, 800m and 4x100m relay on the track. The winning teams were Kingsdale Foundation School Boys Year 8&9 and Girls Year 10, JAGS Girls Year 8&9 and Dulwich College Boys Year 10.

We thank Kingsdale Foundation School for hosting the Link Teachers’ meeting earlier this week. Minutes will be available at the start of next term but in summary we enjoyed an excellent presentation from BrainCanDo and discussed many of the events featured below. With seven exclusive SSLP events already delivered we are looking forward to everything that next term has to offer.
