Thank you to everyone who entered round one of this year’s photography competition, it has now closed. We received 99 entries.

All entries will now be sent to our guest judge anonymously and we will announce the winners and runners-up as soon as possible.

In the meantime, it’s time to enter Round Two…

…Natural Worlds

This is the second round of the SSLP Photography Competition 2023, this month we are looking for pictures of nature, particularly those that make you see a whole new world or even worlds. You might make use of macro settings or take a view from afar, or you might be able to capture a world that’s ordinarily out of sight.

Use your imagination to show us an inspirational Natural World.

Our guest judge this month is Alice Cazenave from The Sustainable Darkroom.

CONNECTING STUDENTS
Over 200 students came to the SSLP Gospel Choir Workshop at Kingsdale Foundation School in November. Watch how they got on in this short video.

Librarians from across the SSLP met at South Bank University Academy on Monday. They discussed how to handle overdue books, creative ideas for marking World Book Day and how to diversify reading lists.
School Counsellors have also come together this week, via zoom. They discussed hosting trainees and bereavement groups.
SSLP Link teachers met on Wednesday at Alleyn’s, they discussed upcoming SSLP events, Student Ambassadors and initial plans for 2023/24.

SSLP Hubs bring together a variety of staff from across our schools.

On Tuesday this week ten SSLP teachers attended a three-hour twilight training session delivered by Debate Mate. They learnt about the Debate Mate core programme, Debate Mate rules for debating and were given ideas and resources for integrating debating into the classroom. This training is part of a package of debating support from the Worshipful Company of International Bankers, which will seven schools each receiving six debate workshops this term and a debating competition next term.

The SSLP Photography competition launched this week with guest judge, Lillie Eiger, and the first of five rounds, The Extraordinary Ordinary, announced.

Already this term our Student Ambassadors have met virtually to ensure that student voice is central to the SSLP. Our young leaders took a detailed look at the feedback received from their peers at the Sustainability Conference in November and began planning for a Mini United Nations event to take place at the end of this term. We will announce more about this when we have details.

When applications closed at the start of this week, we had received 39 applications from Year 12 students hoping for one of two fully-funded BASET opportunities to spend six-weeks studying in Australia this summer. After reviewing the applications we have invited six students to an interview.

Since the SSLP Launched our 2022/23 programme in September, there have been 24 exclusive opportunities for schools, staff and students to connect as well as four meetings of directors and Link teachers. Seven requests for support from partner schools have been successfully met.

Since our last newsletter we have been Thinking About Activism for Climate Change with author Anthea Simmons and Thinking About Sustainable Fashion with Professor Richard Blackburn hosted by students from Dulwich College and St Saviour’s & St Olave’s school.
CONNECTING STUDENTS
On Thursday last week our SSLP Ambassadors hosted a Sustainability Conference at 15Hatfields. They welcomed speakers from OddBox and London Wildlife Trust and worked with facilitators from Young Citizens to choose projects that will bring about change for Food Waste and Fashion.
CONNECTING STAFF
Counsellors from SSLP schools met virtually last Thursday for their half termly catch-up sharing good practice and useful links.
